He is hip-hop's most valuable player: A former street hustler turned microphone god who has applied his business genius to everything from trainers to vodka. Now in the process of starting work on his 11th studio album, we caught 15 minutes backstage with hip-hop's very own superhero, at the ThisDay Africa Rising festival.
AS: I went to New York this year and and all the houses had campaign posters for Barack Obama or Hilary Clinton. This one house had a campaign poster that said: "Jay-Z: the name you can trust". Maybe you should think about politics?
Jay-Z: [Laughs hard] That's crazy. Yeah, maybe I should think about it, at least I know I have one vote right? [Laughs] That's a cool story, thank you for sharing.
“SALES ARE DOWN? NO. FANS ARE CLOWNS!!!” WHAT’S UP TO ALL MY PEOPLE ON THE SITE? THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT. I’D RATHER HAVE 10 TO 20 THOUSAND REAL PEOPLE THEN ONE MILLION IDIOTS BE A PART OF SOMETHING: GENUINE, AUTHENTIC AND FACTUAL.. NOT SYNTHETIC, IMITATION, AND BOGUS.
.DID YOU ALL SEE THE MOVIE JERRY MCGUIRE? WELL, IN THAT MOVIE TOM CRUISE WORKS FOR A MAJOR SPORTS AGENCY THAT HAS MANY CLIENTS AND IS A HUGE MONSTER MACHINE OF A COMPANY. DURING A GAME, ONE OF CRUISE’S CLIENTS GETS INJURED AND HE VISITS HIM IN THE HOSPITAL WHILE THE PLAYER’S FAMILY IS THERE.
First off i would like to thanks everyone who sent me an email biggin up the site. I replied to each and every one, so don't be shy. The last few days I focused more on writing articles than developing the site, so for today and tomorrow we are going ahead and building what i promised....a free online version of the Source in its prime. The site will feature an Unsigned Hype column, eye candy, and our version of the phat tape starting very soon...so if you want some exposure, keep reading to find out what you got to do. To all my heads out there, i'm really excited about hip hop finally having that authentic outlet....i received numerous emails with requests to write about certain aspects of hip hop. If you have any requests, or you have a gem that you yourself would like to drop on heads accross the world, hit me up...you will get full credit.
Some of you probably had no idea who this dude was, and think of him as Shynes jibberish talker. But this man right here is a legend...and this track is one of my all time favorites.
Decent list...is it just me or does he sound like all 10 of those rappers at different times on his albums? Not to mention he says each of their names 20 times a piece per song. I think he makes some bangers, and overall can spit....but he can't make tracks that will leave a mark in hip hop. When you name drop and reference events in your music...your making songs for that particular time frame. Where as with joints like 'New York State of Mind', 'Slippin', 'Can I live'...those live on forever.
